Bringing Simulation Earlier into the Design Process MSC SimDesigner is a component of the MSC SimEnterprise simulation product suite, which also includes MSC SimXpert and MSC SimManager. SimEnterprise enables manufacturing companies to improve product development by deploying role-based simulation applications and enabling integration to third party and in-house tools used for the design and test of products. Through the use of SimEnterprise, companies can build corporate standards for simulation and virtual test processes, create and capture simulation methods and knowledge for reuse across user types and supply chain, and manage and control simulation data and process pedigree.
SimDesigner Template Client Edition plugs into the CAD environment allowing designers across the engineering department and into the supply chain to retrieve and execute simulation templates authored by expert analysts. Template guided analysis ensures proper modeling, simulation inputs, materials data, discipline methods and CAE best practices are being followed by CAD users.
SimDesigner Template Client Edition is offered for the following CAD systems: - CATIA V5
- NX
- Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire
Product manufacturers using one or more of these CAD systems can enforce simulation standards to CAD users and ensure they are following corporate best practices for virtual testing. |

 Motion Workbench
 Structures Workbench
 Thermal Workbench
 Crash Workbench
Composites Add-on Module | | | Designer-Friendly Tools with Corporate CollaborationSimDesigner Workbench Edition offers integrated, easy-to-use workbenches to enable users to perform multi-discipline simulation studies on fully associative models without leaving the CAD environment.
For example, design engineers can use the Motion workbench to investigate multi-body dynamics while assessing loads and forces in the assembly. The loads generated from motion analysis can subsequently be transferred and applied to a flexible body structural simulation for examining stresses during motion simulation. Engineers never have to leave the SimDesigner Workbench Edition environment to perform these analyses – and no time-consuming data conversion is required. This up-front analysis leads to faster product performance decisions and helps identify design flaws earlier.
Motion Workbench - Enables designers to easily perform multi-body dynamics simulation on rigid and flexible bodies
- Powered by Adams, the worldwide standard in multi-body motion simulation
- Generates loads and forces that can subsequently be transferred and used for structural analysis studies
Structures Workbench - Powered by MD Nastran, the world's leading simulation and finite element analysis product
- Includes both linear and nonlinear generative analysis
- Supports linear static, normal modes, and dynamic analyses, as well as nonlinear large deformation, contact, and material plasticity analyses in one common simulation environment
Thermal Workbench - Enables users to easily and cost-effectively perform generative heat transfer studies
- Capabilities include steady-state or transient thermo-mechanical analysis
- Powered by Nastran and Marc (link), the most comprehensive and advanced nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) solution on the market
Crash Workbench - Enables design engineers to investigate highly nonlinear, time-dependent problems within the CATIA V5 environment
- Design engineers can perform drop test analysis, simulating the effects of impact and damage that occur in real-life situations
- Includes an integrated gateway to LS-DYNA for more complex analyses and data-sharing with analysts
Composites Add-on Module - Integrates with SimDesigner Structures Workbench
- Utilizes the power of MD Nastran to accurately predict ply-based stresses and strains
- Specify the laminate characteristics such as material properties, fiber orientation, and thickness of each lamina in the composite lay-up
Enterprise Gateways – Leverage Existing Virtual Product Development Investments
By exporting run-ready solver input files to enterprise compute resources such as Nastran, Marc, and LS-DYNA, SimDesigner Workbench Edition facilitates a higher level of collaboration and communication between design engineers and analysts across the enterprise. Analysts can pick up where design engineers leave off, without any data translation or need to recreate the same analyses.
Enterprise Gateways enable bi-directional (deck export, job submission and results import), cross-enterprise access to existing simulation resources.
